Cold Forest

If you stand still and silent

Your boots heavy in the snow

The cold forest roams passed you

Snow drifts kiss you on the way

Icicles snap like candy

Just sweets scented on your lips

And float off with the snow drifts

Along with bristles and cones

You are left there all alone

With shoulder strapped memories

Old ghosts roped around your waist

Like the arms of a past love

Even they are carried off

Time’s cold hands a grasping snare

Leaving you with just your boots

Flesh shivering in despair

This fate may be avoided

If only your steps you take

Finding your trail through the trees

The snow the slate for your path

One hard step then another

Defying the devil’s wrath

You will be lost up yonder

Your corpse found etched in the snow

But you will release your soul

Not have her stolen from you

So follow your twilight star

The one that beckons you home

Get lost in those trees so far

Be found wherever you roam
