God is a fossil
Carved out from a cave
With sediment veins
And a hardened spine
Wrapped in His own stone
Eternity flesh
Forevermore life
Foundation at rest
His alpha preserved
Same as omega
Where all time does stop
His Word etched in rock
Placed on a column
Beneath the hot lights
There to be worshipped
And studied with care
Then packed in a box
And stored in the dark
Along with parchments
And abandoned stock
God once a fossil
Now a textbook note
Scribble on a board
Query in a quiz
Brought up now and then
In the teachers’ den
But otherwise dead
For we forget He bled
