Independence Day Haikus

Star Spangled Banner

Blood drips from the bayonet

And smears the canvas.

She has golden hair

Crown of thorns without the thorns

Covered wagon dream.

Parchment quill and ink

An Injun in every pot

Words chiseled with blood.

Hooded man on horse

Flag pulled up over his eyes

Trotting toward a cliff.

A cowboy’s campfire

Leather boots over a flame

Staying put tonight.

I write, act, and produce films in Los Angeles. Everything else is conjecture.
